Senior seminar web story pic 2.26.16Our senior wildcats are in full scholarship mode and are applying for various types of scholarships, which will assist with their finances for college. Some of our young men have applied for the Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship. Alpha Phi Alpha offers both merit and need based scholarships available to students who want to pursue an undergraduate degree. The scholarship is funded through the Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation, which is the first African American Greek-Lettered Fraternity in the country. As one of the top predominantly black fraternities in country, it is a part of the “Seven Jewels” organization. This scholarship offers college students a chance of leadership and responsibility. Yearly the foundation gives away around $208,000 to undergraduate students allowing thousands to get the education they deserve.

All of the merit based scholarships are based on different grade point averages with varying amounts of money making them available for most students. The requirements are a grade point average of at least 2.5 and going to a college in the state of Illinois. The application requirements for the scholarship are as follows:

  • Writing a personal statement emphasizing on independence, responsibility and your goals
  • Having a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Having two letters of recommendation
  • Current high school transcript

Most of the Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarships are easily accessible to hard working students as long as they meet the March 1st, 2016, application deadline. Our wildcats are working hard to meet the application deadlines and meet their financial needs for the future.
