Artistic Wildcats

sliderTeam10Street art is a very popular form of art that can be found around the world. For this unit, the students in Art I have been learning about different street artists and their own interpretation of it. They have learned about street artists Mark Jenkins, Peeta, Shaka, and Banksy, and applied their knowledge to create different pieces influenced by these artists.

Students in the after-school Art Club have been transferring these skills and researching further into the history of street art. They came across Keith Harring, who used his art to foster AIDS awareness during the 1980s. Afterwards, they came up with an idea to collaborate with other schools in the neighborhood. The students from the Boys and Girls Club at Clemente are now working on a mural project for Chopin Elementary. The students are creating a Keith Harring-style piece with the message: “Education is the Path to Success in Life.” The piece depicts figures that are working together and enjoying education throughout the painting. The Wildcats are excited to collaborate with the elementary school and look forward to going to Chopin and seeing their work there.
