Clemente Girls Basketball vs Collins Academy High School

The Roberto Clemente Community Academy Girls’ Basketball season is underway and it looks like it is going to be a successful one! In the Lady Wildcats’ first game against Collins Academy High School, there was a lot to be excited about. Both varsity and JV teams came out with enthusiasm and pride. The varsity team, led by senior leaders Jazlin Torres, Chastidy Soto, and Jocelyn Ramirez, lost a hard fought game with a score of 20-29. The leading scorer for the Wildcats with 10 points was Keara Baker.

The Wildcats’ second game of the season was against Marine Leadership Academy. The Wildcats came out energized and ready to play, outscoring Marine 18 to 9 in the first half. Junior, Terra McKethan, led the Wildcats with 11 points. Seven different girls scored for the Wildcats and contributed to the team victory. Before the game started, “We over me,” the team slogan for the season was the chant and focus. The girls reflected this slogan in their gameplay, moving the ball unselfishly up and down the court, making sure the team as a whole got the job done.

In the third game of the season the Lady Wildcats faced off against area rival, Wells High School. The Wildcats did not disappoint. Led by senior team captains Chastidy Soto and Jazlin Torres, the Wildcats played incredible defense, disrupting Wells and creating the opportunity for Clemente to win by more than 30 points.

Sophomore Sierra Davis stated, “Everybody had good vibes and we put we over me, playing as a unified team.” Sierra scored 10 points, Terra McKethan scored 6, and freshman Taja Thompson led the team with 21 points. The Lady Wildcats are playing as a unit and working hard to get better.
