Clemente Students to Perform on stage at Hamilton

On March 1st, over 100 of our students will be going to see the musical Hamilton, two of which will be performing on stage for almost 2000 people. Delana Lee (rapper) and Jaden Knox (drums) will be performing an original piece they wrote for the Hamilton Education Program & The Gilder Lehrman Institute. All of the students participating were challenged with writing an original song, poem, or other artistic performance on a topic relating America’s Revolutionary Era. Lee’s rap about Paul Revere, combined with a drum cadence created by Knox, were chosen to represent Clemente at the musical.

The Clemente community could not be more proud of these two talented young artists and are beyond excited to watch them perform live!

“The British are Coming” by Delana Lee

The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
We’ve gotta do something

The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
We’ve gotta do something

I am Paul Revere
I do not fear
The British I informed my people when they were near

I yelled very loudly so everyone could hear
“The British are coming” Grab your guns and your gear

The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
We’ve gotta do something

The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
We’ve gotta do something

I got upon my horse and rode off into the night
I heard the British men and they were looking for a fight
I wanted independence bad enough to lose my life
So I was ready to stand, battle for what was right
I rode all day never once did I stop
I had to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock
I has specific orders so I had to spread the word
The British troops were coming on their way to Concord

The British are coming
The British are coming
The British are coming
We’ve gotta do something
