Cooking Up Change 2014

cooking-up-changeThis week a group of our Clemente culinary seniors participated in the Healthy School Campaign’s “Cooking Up Change” competition. For this competition, our students were challenged to create a healthful school lunch using ingredients available to the school cafeterias. The lunch had to fit the federal guidelines for nutrition, and in addition, had to cost less than a dollar per meal! Seventeen CPS schools participated in the event.

Team Clemente came up with a menu of Mexican lasagna, elotes, and a spicy fruit salad. As part of the competition, guests paid to taste all the teams’ menus and meet the students. Money raised at the event goes to help funding for school lunches. To keep with their theme, the students decorated their table as well as their faces with the “Dia de los Muertos” theme. Although we didn’t win this year, we had a great time, and everyone loved our food. Nice work, seniors!
