First Quarter Awards Assemblies

Students from each grade level celebrated their academic and attendance accomplishments last week during Quarter 1 awards assemblies.

Senior Awards Assembly

At the senior awards assembly on November 13th, twelfth-graders received awards aligned with characteristics of the IB Learner Profile. Balanced, Inquirer, Thinker and Principled Awards were distributed, as well as honors for attaining different GPAs. The ceremony was also a time to honor students’ achievements toward their post-secondary goals. Students who have already been accepted to colleges were recognized, including institutions such as Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Monmouth College, Dominican University, Black Hawk College, and the University of Iowa.

Junior Awards Assembly

Each teacher in the 11th grade honored two students: one student who showed mastery in the subject they teach and one student who showed growth throughout the first quarter. The awards assembly allowed teachers to personally announce their high-achieving student winners. It also allowed all teachers and students to REFLECT (as they chanted in the auditorium) and brought the junior class closer together.

Sophomore Awards Assembly

This quarter’s assembly gave awards to students in the following categories: Gold and Silver Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance, 90% Attendance, most improved within each content area, and specific IB learner profile traits (Inquirer, Risk-Taker, and Principled.) For the content area awards, teachers in each subject area nominated students who they believed improved the most in their subject this first quarter. Finally, the IB learner profile awards were given to students who were first nominated by their teachers, with winners were selected by student vote.

Freshman Awards Assembly

The assembly began with a slideshow capturing the highlights of the 1st quarter. Faculty and staff distributed certificates, Wildcat keys, and gift cards to students who made it on the Honor Roll and to students with excellent attendance. The six students with straight As also received brand-new backpacks. One of the best parts of the assembly was when our very own Wildcat made a guest appearance to “pump up” the crowd and toss t-shirts and other goodies to our amazing students.

Students are looking forward to the next awards assemblies, which will take place at the end of the 1st semester.
