Freshmen Investigate Peace Treaties

This week, the freshmen in world studies class are beginning to study how perspectives of different countries influence their cooperation when making peace treaties. Students viewed several historical photographs and read complex nonfiction texts to explore how leaders from different countries went into the peace treaty making process with contrasting motives.
“I am learning that peace treaties are the result of the leaders trying to do what’s best for their countries,” Zavier Torres explained about his learning process in this unit.
As a culminating summative assessment, students will research a self-selected peace treaty and write a college-style essay involving formulating a claim, providing evidence, and analyzing reliable sources.
