The Golden Apple Scholarship is an award given to students with aspirations to be teachers. This award comes with a scholarship worth $27,000, summer internship programs, as well as job placement. A student may nominate themselves for the award or be nominated by an adult. To be eligible for this award a student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, a 22 or higher ACT composite score, and be interviewed. The Golden Apple Foundation will notify the student of their recipiency. Students later attend an induction ceremony to start their journey into being a Golden Apple Scholar. After the school year is over, the students participate in the Golden Apple Summer Institute.

While the recipient starts their first year of college, they must maintain a certain attendance and a minimum GPA of 3.0. The Golden Apple provides assistance with job placement in a school of need (more than 60% of students that attend the school are on free or reduced lunch). The Golden Apple recipient must teach at any Illinois school of need for five years within seven years of graduating.
