Teacher Wendy Baxter was awarded the 2011-2012 Woods-Lindley Prize for Excellence in English Teacher Education for outstanding mentorship of her University of Illinois at Circle student teacher, Ms. Celina Bondie. Demonstration of excellence in mentoring a student teacher's success is the focus of the award. The prize includes an award of $500 to both the mentor teacher and the student teacher.
Mr Hough and two other teachers from the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system received a study grant provided by the Department of Education and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa and traveled to the University of Hawai'i Manoa (over spring break) to study issues surrounding Southeast Asia and human rights. These CPS teacher delegates participated in lectures, attended a school and were welcomed by the Governor of Hawaii, Neal Abercrome.
