The Lady Wildcat Soccer Team Scores Another Win!
On Saturday April 7th, the Clemente Wildcats girls Varsity soccer team faced off against new Conference rivals, Disney Titans. Coming off a win from their last game, the Lady Wildcats had something to prove during Saturdays match. This was the first time Clemente faced Disney and with the sun shining and the cold win blowing, the game started off with both teams playing defensive soccer. The Lady Wildcats didn’t start the game off the way they intended. The Disney Titans began to put pressure on the defense, which created two goal scoring opportunities for the Titans and resulted in two amazing saves by freshmen goalkeeper Jessica Flores. During the 18th minute of the match, the Lady Titans created a chance and fired a shot that deflected off Freshmen Isabel Velazquez that passed right by the Clemente goalkeeper. The 1-0 lead didn’t last long, as Sophomore Maria Cervantes received a ball down the middle of the field and shot the ball past the Titans goalkeeper to equalize the score with five minutes left in the first half.

After few adjustments, the second half began right where the first half ended. The Clemente Lady Wildcats played solid defense, which resulted in a high percentage of ball possession in the opponents half. With continued pressure on the Titans defense, the Lady Wildcats were able to create a goal scoring opportunity when Senior Jacquelin Onofre was tripped and fouled, resulting in a Lady Wildcats a penalty kick. Maria Cervantes stepped up with confidence, and put the ball in the lower right corner of the goal. This gave Clemente a 2-1 lead. The Lady Wildcats continued to press, which lead to another great play that resulted in a third goal from Maria Cervantes. These young ladies displayed confidence and control as they won 3-1, marking their second victory of the season. The lady Wildcats hope to continue building off these wins as they head off to face Conference rivals Sullivan High School this upcoming Friday.
