National Louis University

National Louis UniversityWithin the heart of Chicago lies National Louis University, which has been known as one of the oldest and most progressive universities in the city. National Louis University has two different colleges, the National College of Education and the College of Professional Studies and Advancement. From these two colleges, they offer more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. They are known as an excellent institution for teacher training, and has adopted the slogan, “teacher of teachers”. But a lesser known fact, is that National Louis University is also one of the most diverse universities in the Midwest, helping students of all ages and backgrounds achieve their personal and professional goals.

National Louis University firmly believes that a quality education can change lives, careers and communities. The origins of this institution was founded more than 125 years ago by Elizabeth Harrison, who was an education pioneer and social reformer. Harrison’s progressive work was instrumental in establishing the National Parent-Teacher Association and the Head Start program, as well as, the National College of Education (NCE) which became the first university in Illinois to offer a four-year teaching degree. Michael W. Louis was also an important person in the school’s history, since he donated large amounts of money to help add two more colleges in 1990, and as a result, National Louis University was established.

National Louis University has undergone many changes in its 125-year history, but through all these changes, they have upheld their core mission to provide the best possible education and change lives. National Louis University has grown to serve more than 8,000 students at seven locations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Florida, and at their global business school in Nowy Sacz, Poland.
