sliderPARCCTuesday March 24, 2015 the freshman class started a new web-based test called “PARCC.” The PARCC test is a new assessment that measures students’ reading, writing, and math skills. The skills are outlined in the Common Core State Standards, which students work on throughout the year.

“The test was hard and it was difficult, but I managed to work through the test,” student Kayla Vaughn said. She explained that when she started the test, she was nervous because it was new and she was not used to the new format. Many of the freshmen felt a little nervous at first, but they built their confidence up throughout the assessment. When they were done, they all felt great because they accomplished something that required a lot of effort.

“It was something very new and hard,” said Vanessa Hernandez. She said that she was exhausted when the test was over. She also said that she is looking forward to seeing her scores so that she knows where she needs to improve. “The test was very difficult and tiring because it was on the computer,” Maria Cervantes said. This assessment was the first time the students completed a computer-based standardized test. When all of the students were done with the PARCC, they were able to choose if they wanted to watch a movie in the auditorium or go to the gym to play basketball. This was a great reward for working so hard for two days. Overall, the test was something new and it gave us a new experience with web-based tests.
