The Clemente Classic

img_13618 teams Chicagoland teams participated The Second Annual Clemente Classic basketball tournament. Held here at Roberto Clemente Community Academy, all teams played four games throughout the Thanksgiving break. Games continue throughout the weekend with the Championship played on Saturday. First and Second place will receive trophies, while 5 players will be selected for the All Tournament team and receive plaques for their accomplishments. Please come out and support the Clemente Wildcats as they look to win the Clemente Classic.

The games has been quite competitive so far. The season and tournament started on Monday with Clemente defeating Alcott by a score of 72-58. Four Wildcats, Richard Labon, Jamaul Perdue, Joe Rhymes, and Teshawn Stokes, have all scored over ten points. On Wednesday, the Wildcats went on to defeat the Rauner Wildcats by a score of 70-47. The team started the game off on a 20-2 run and never looked back. No Clemente starters played in the fourth quarter. Clemente looks to lock up the Championship over the weekend.

Other highlights in the tournament have included Rauner point guard, Micol Cabrera, scoring 31 points in a losing effort to Austin, while his counterpart, M. Lewis, scored 24 for Austin. There also have been close games between Solorio and Rowe Clark when Solorio won by a key fourth quarter three pointer.
