Winter Festival 2016

The Roberto Clemente Community Academy Fine Arts Department was well represented at the Winter Festival on Friday, December 9th. The Winter Festival was a night highlighting the many programs that Clemente has to offer. Students ranging from freshman to seniors performed in the Steel Drum Ensemble, Beginning Concert Band, and Drumline. The students in the Broadcasting program gave presentations on projects they have been working on this year, including an interview with the director of broadway’s hit new musical, Hamilton! The Art department created an exhibit in the lobby containing student projects from throughout the year, and the Culinary Arts team prepared fresh holiday treats and desserts for our guests. The evening was an opportunity for students to showcase their talents and exceptional work and parents, teachers and their community what they do here at Clemente.

After many months of preparation, students got a glimpse of the process in becoming an effective performer and communicator. To prepare, students diligently practiced their selections in multiple after-school rehearsals. This was the first time many of our students performed on stage. The Beginning Band comprised of all Freshman, started learning their instruments this year and performed three holiday favorites. The Advanced Steel Drum ensemble performed holiday selections including songs from contemporary artists. To close the program, the Drumline performed cadences and an arrangement of “Little Drummer Boy.

The IB students at Clemente have a wide array of programs to be apart of. Our students have a choice of being in Steel Drum, Band, Culinary, Art or Broadcasting as well as many other after-school programs. Regardless of the program they choose, students understand the rigor and work required to be a successful performer and communicator.
