Clemente Baseball is Back!

baseball12On what was a perfect day for baseball with the sun shining and the chatter of fans anticipating the start of the season, our boys took to the field to play their first game against the Whitney Young Dolphins. We came swinging out the gate with solid pitching and good hitting to take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Unfortunately, it did not last long as we quickly displayed our youth and did not make routine defensive plays compared to a seasoned Dolphin team. Nervous and inexperienced, our young players tried to battle to no avail as they went down 16-1.

Game two on Wednesday displayed a more determined team and demonstrated early on that they were not rattled from their game one loss. Braulio Vasquez led the attack against Bulls Prep Academy with an outstanding performance on the mound. He finished his pitching performance with 7 strikeouts and only 3 walks and 1 run to go 1-0 in his pitching debut. Defensively, our players were much improved, as demonstrated by the great field play by Anthony Velazquez who guarded the second base area with great focus and precision. Offensively, our bats came alive with Braulio leading the way with a 2 for 2 performance including a triple on our way to a 11-1 victory. The Wildcats will be on the road Saturday against Waukegan HS for a midday doubleheader.
