Clemente Sends Seniors Out In Style

Last Wednesday, Clemente’s boys varsity basketball team sent out its seniors in style. The team won its 16th game of the season and celebrated the seniors with their families. This year Clemente has three seniors who have led the team, not only statistically, but also with leadership.

Senior Richard Labon has led the team in rebounding with 9 rebounds a game, but also in assists with 4 assists per game. He is also averaging 10 points a game. Richard, who also plays football here at Clemente, has been a leader on the basketball team and a captain for the last two years. Next year, Richard will continue playing football, and potentially basketball, at Carthage College on an athletic scholarship. Fellow Senior, Jamaul Perdue has been one of the best shooters in the city of Chicago with over 45 three-pointers in the year. He has been playing on the varsity team and starting for three years. Jamaul is also the team’s best defensive player. Next year, Jamaul will likely be going to Lincoln College and continuing to play basketball there. Finally Senior Joe Rhymes is the team’s second leading scorer, as well as best free throw shooter. He has been playing varsity for the last two years. While Joe is still undecided on where he will be going to college next year, he is certain that he will continue to be an athlete; he would like to play college football.

The seniors will play their final home games next week in the IHSA playoffs, which will be hosted at Clemente. They are looking to win the Regional Championship for the first time in school history. The Wildcats have received the 6 seed out of 24 teams in their Sectional. They will play the winning team of the Perspectives Math and Science Academy vs. Chicago Bulls College Prep game. If Clemente wins on Wednesday, the team will likely play Farragut High School.

Please come out and support the Wildcat Seniors and the rest of the basketball team Wednesday night at Clemente High School. Contact coach Adam Hoover (achoover@cps.edu) with any questions.
