Food Depository and Forest Preserve: Service by Sophomores

On April 28th, the Food Depository presented a group of sophomore students with ideas on how to bring awareness to their community about the Food Depository. After students were given ways the community shows their involvement already, the groups brainstormed ideas to promote the Food Depository in Humboldt Park. “Their ideas ranged from hosting a carnival to going to grocery stores to ask for almost-expired food. I was really impressed by the thoughtfulness of this group,” says Mrs. Santana.

On April 30th, the sophomores participated in one of their last service learning projects for this school year. The community service learning took place across various forest preserves in the Chicagoland area. Over 50 sophomores participated in this service event, picking up litter or to cutting down invasive species of plants. Ms. Krieg states, “Students had a fantastic time spending the afternoon at the park, contributing to its cleanliness by picking up trash and having recreational time to play games.
