We over Me!: Girls Basketball Preview

girls-bball-1The Roberto Clemente Community Academy Girls’ Basketball Team is ready to start an exciting season. More than 25 girls came to try out and show their skills. All of the female athletes came out with fire and a hunger to compete and be a part of a winning team.

This year, the Lady Wildcats will have both a junior varsity and a varsity team. 6 student athletes will be returning to the varsity team. Two of the returning players are seniors, Jazlin Torres and Chastidy Soto. When asked about how she felt about the upcoming season Jazlin stated, “I feel that this upcoming season is going to be difficult but fun. It’s going to be difficult for the younger girls who aren’t experienced with high school basketball, but it’ll be fun coaching them and teaching them something before I leave. For varsity, I believe it’ll be a good season since we have our same starting 5. Also I can’t wait to work with Taja Thompson, one of our new freshman who will be playing on varsity.”

Along with new players, the team will have a new coaching staff with coach Gaston Griffin and coach Reine Pavlik, both of whom are incredibly excited to be working with such a great group of young women. Coach Pavlik stated, “I am really excited to start the season. I can tell that we have a really great group of girls who just love to play and compete. I have high hopes for the team this season.”

We over Me is our basketball slogan and our shared team mindset. As a team, we will be working on focusing on the goals and movement of the team rather than any individual. The Lady Wildcats have already set a goal to make it to the playoffs! Good luck Wildcats!
