Roberto Clemente Community Academy Culinary Arts Students Cook for VIP Event

team11pic1Roberto Clemente Community Academy Culinary Arts program juniors had the opportunity to turn their school work into reality this week. As they were starting their unit on breakfast foods, word came that there would be a VIP breakfast meeting in the media center. As they always do, the culinary students jumped in to provide some refreshments. The hardy Clemente Culinary team were up and cooking before dawn to be ready to greet Alderman Moreno and Mayor Emanuel. The dignitaries, along with students, staff, and parents, were treated to a light continental breakfast of fresh fruit, cinnamon rolls, carrot muffins, mini quiche, biscuits with jam, coffee, juice, and water. All those present were treated to another sweet surprise as the mayor announced plans for the refurbishment of Clemente’s baseball and multi-purpose fields.

Not lost on the Clemente chefs was the opportunity to sharpen their networking skills. As the culinary program is under the umbrella of the Early College and Career Education department, the aspiring chefs are taught to always be on the lookout for opportunities to meet, greet, and socialize with anyone who can help their career or college plans. The students relished the opportunity to meet and serve the Alderman and Mayor.
