Roberto Clemente Community Academy at Fiesta Boricua 2016

fiesta-image5On September 3rd and 4th, Roberto Clemente Community Academy hosted a booth as well as a variety of activities at the Back to School Education Corridor at Fiesta Boricua hosted by Community as a Campus. Along with a table that offered information regarding the academic and extracurricular options offered at Clemente, our students and staff hosted a sports corridor that engaged young people in basketball, soccer, and archery. Clemente high school students and staff offered sports lessons, facilitated games, and provided activities for all of Fiesta’s attendees. Community members also had the opportunity to win Clemente t-shirts, hats, and hoodies as prizes – all to ensure that our community members are proud to be wearing our gear!

While Clemente students were working with children, teachers and staff members spoke with parents about Cfiesta-image1lemente’s academic programs, currently improving student outcome data, and extracurricular activities. Alumni from the community were proud to see their school well represented at Fiesta Boricua. Parents were excited about seeing their neighborhood high school out in the community, spending time with their children and engaging them in meaningful and fun activities. Community members, parents, and prospective students were also very impressed at the progress Clemente has made in areas such as graduation rate, college enrollment, and freshman on track over the past few years as they learned about how their very own neighborhood school was improving and doing better than some other neighborhood and charter schools in the area!

Neighborhood elementary schools, De Diego and Yates, celebrated Fiesta Boricua alongside Clemente. The Principal of De Diego, Jackie Menoni and her staff and the Principal of Yates, Israel Perez and his staff worked side by side to ensure that our community understands that there is a quality public school, both elementary and high school – right here in their very own neighborhood.

On behalf of Roberto Clemente Community Academy, thank you to teachers, staff, students, our feeder school partners, and the community for making this weekend a wonderful start to the school year! We look forward to seeing you at future community events!
