University Spotlight: Columbia College Chicago

Columbia College offers more than 100 academic majors or programs divided into four main programs: The School of Fine and Performing Arts, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Media Arts, and the School of Art and Design. The School of Art and Design has become very popular over the past decade. The average class size is less than 20 students per class meaning more one on one time with the professors. Columbia College also is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.

Columbia College focuses on strengthening the various ways that students learn. As found on the school’s website, “Building on its heritage of creativity, innovation, and strength, Columbia College Chicago continues to challenge its students to realize their abilities according to the school’s motto, “Esse quam videri” – to be rather than to seem and encourages its students to author the culture of their times.” Columbia College encourages both academic and personal growth for its student population.

Famous alumni who have attended Columbia College Chicago include Bob Odenkirk, writer for Saturday Night Live and actor in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Pat Sajak, host of Wheel of Fortune, and Kanye West, rapper, producer, and fashion designer.
