University Spotlight: The University of Chicago

sliderChicagoThe University of Chicago is a private college located in Chicago’s Hyde Park community. Ranked #4 in the nation by US News and World Report, the University of Chicago boasts some of the best business, medical, and law programs in the country. In addition to their phenomenal academic programs, this university also offers 19 varsity sports, intramural and club sports, and has state-of-the-art athletic facilities open to students and faculty.

According to their website, the University of Chicago is an institution that is highly dedicated to research. They even have partnerships with other research labs across the country. Additionally, the University of Chicago “has had an impact around the globe leading to such breakthroughs as discovering the link between cancer and genetics, establishing revolutionary theories of economics, and developing tools to produce reliably excellent urban schooling.”

The University of Chicago is difficult to get into with only an 8.8% acceptance rate. Of those student acceptances, a 28 on the ACT and a 3.75 grade point average or above was the norm. U of C has a variety of programs and majors including Biological Sciences, Business, Classical Studies, East Asian Language and Civilization, Education, Linguistics, Sociology, and may others. There are also Professional Schools specific to the University of Chicago including The Chicago Booth Business School, Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies, and the Pritzker School of Medicine.

There are many famous alumni that have attended the University of Chicago including a long list of senators, governors, congressmen, and many other government officials. In addition, many founders, co-founders, and CEO’s of large American corporations also went to U of C including: Executive Vice President of Xerox, Vice Chairman of Staples, CEO and President of Orbitz Worldwide, and the President and CEO of Gillette among many others.
