The Clemente Boys Basketball team kicked off their season at our Fourth Annual Clemente Classic Thanksgiving Tournament with a 52-37 win over UIC College Prep. The team was led by sophomores, Trey Spires and Terrell Taylor. In his first-ever start at the varsity level, Taylor scored a career and team-high: 20 points with 6 rebounds. This was the fourth consecutive season-opening win for Clemente.
The boys continued to play well during their next two games with two blow-out wins over Soto, 64-20, and Alcott, 66-34. All players got into both games with a running clock for the entire fourth quarter. Against Soto, the team was led by Trey Spires who almost had a triple-double with 10 points, 11 assists, and 8 steals. that Friday against Alcott, Jordan Brown was blistering hot from the three-point line scoring 28 points and pouring in 8 3-pointers. This is the most 3-pointers in one game by a Clemente player in the last 5 years.
The 3-0 start set up a match against Solorio High School in the championship game. Unfortunately, for the first time in 3 years, Clemente lost the championship game. Poor shooting from the 3-point line was the biggest reason for the loss as the team shot 1-21. The team was still led by sophomores Trey Spires and Terrell Taylor who both scored over 10 points. Trey was named to the All-Tournament Team as a sophomore. Finally, the Wildcats rebounded from their second place finish at the Clemente Classic with a 53-44 win over Ogden International. Eight players scored as Spires and Daeshaun Adams, making his season debut, both scored over ten points. The Wildcats began conference play at Wells High School on Wednesday, December 5th, and returned home to face Clark High School the following Friday. Click here to change this text
